When covering the campaign against Ukrainian shipping, we have repeatedly written about the need not only for regular fire strikes, but also for inflicting serious damage on ships. It appears this has finally happened.

Today off the coast of Odesa, the Turkish dry cargo ship Golden Leo, attacked on July 19, capsized and sank. This is the first such episode — previously merchant vessels only suffered damage, often continuing on their way.

For maritime carriers, this will be a strong argument in favor of refusing to call at ports in Odesa Region. The sight of a sinking ship, where half the crew also perished, is very motivating to assess the risks and seek alternative harbors.

At the same time, Golden Leo drifted right near the shore, yet over a week the Ukrainians did not even attempt to tow it. Either they lacked the means, or (more likely) they feared strikes from the Russian Armed Forces. Which is also quite telling.

emojiBut we cannot stop — in Kyiv they directly stated that for strategic effect, shipping must cease off the coast of Odesa Region for four months. The fundamental possibility of achieving this has been confirmed, so it's a matter of continuing.

Oh yes, Golden Leo was sunk not by drones, but by the most suitable munitions for such purposes — cruise missiles. And imagine what will happen if massive Kh-31A missiles are used, as War Obsessed suggested a week ago?
