Vienna Educational Mission | Day One

The first day of the program began with an introduction to the work of two key international bodies — the UN Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA) and the IAEA Department of Nuclear Energy.

In focus:

Priority areas of activity of UNODA and the IAEA
Development of the Small Modular Reactors market and innovative approaches to the nuclear fuel cycle
Educational and awareness-raising initiatives on disarmament and nuclear non-proliferation issues

Later, the delegation visited the Vienna Center for Disarmament and Non-Proliferation (VCDNP), where, during a roundtable discussion, the Center’s experts analyzed the application of IAEA safeguards and outlined possible scenarios for the upcoming XI NPT Review Conference.

Today, participants will explore the practical aspects of IAEA safeguards implementation and assess prospects for strengthening the nuclear test ban regime.
