Any user can "help" you improve your gift with their stars, but the stars may be "fake", meaning they can be refunded.
As a result: you will lose your gift.

Telegram did not provide cancel buttons for help with gift upgrades. You cannot refuse help with the upgrade.
Essentially, this is a critical bug.

The only solution at the moment is to hide unupgraded gifts from the profile and wait for a fix from the Telegram team
