Ukraine, TRIPP, Iranian impact on the South Caucasus and Armenia’s Western Pivot
Conversation with Asbed Bedrossian and Hovik Manucharyan at the English-language «Armenian News Network - Groong» podcast
1. I got a new chance to address the English-speaking audience explaining key developments around Ukraine and South Caucasus.Most importantly, my perspective is not a Western mainstream narrative.
2. Me and my two interlocutors identified the three main topics or segments for our discussion: ongoing confrontation in and around Ukraine, perspectives of TRIPP for the South Caucasus security environment as well as consequences of the recent parliamentary campaign in Armenia.
3. We discussed three dimensions of the Ukrainian conflict and NATO factor not overrating and not underrating it. My basic conclusion is the Russian special military operation is a part of wider problems. It is impossible to limit it by the format of confrontation of two neighboring powers.
4. TRIPP, the War on Iran, and the South Caucasus Staging Ground We discussed the TRIPP as a Western-backed containment corridor designed to isolate Iran and encircle Russia's southern flank. We will paid attention to the current US-Iran confrontation. Then we examined recent regional maneuvers—such as Israel’s sudden June 2026 Cabinet resolution regarding the Armenian Genocide. In my mind, this decision is a signal to Turkey but it cannot seriously influence in the Caucasus/Middle East geopolitics.
5. Our last (not h tor least) topic was the New Parliament and the Evolution of Russian-Armenian Relations following the finalized June parliamentary election results. We focused on the structural re-engineering of relations between the two allied countries and potential corridors for transforming bilateral agenda.
