XDAO for the fam:
QUORUM
A quorum is the minimum number of votes required for a DAO decision to be considered valid
You can’t just gather three people and decide the fate of the treasury if there are hundreds of members in the DAO. To prevent manipulation and apathy, every vote sets a quorum — a predefined threshold of participation. For example, 20% of all eligible voters
If the quorum isn’t reached, the proposal is automatically rejected — even if most of the voters said “yes”. This motivates members to stay engaged and participate actively in governance
Why quorum matters:
It protects the DAO from decisions made by too few people
It boosts legitimacy — the more people vote, the stronger the trust in the outcome
It adds flexibility — you can set a high quorum for important votes, and a low one for routine matters
Without a quorum, decisions can be made by too narrow a group, which undermines legitimacy and trust within the DAO. But a properly configured quorum gives the system flexibility — routine decisions can be delegated to a smaller group, while major questions go to a vote by the full community. With a quorum, a DAO stays decentralized but operates faster and more effectively
