❓Question: What is the CIFS (Foundation) course, and who is it for?

✔️ Answer: CIFS (Certificate in International Foundation Studies) is a one-year (two-semester) foundation course delivered at WIUT and validated by the University of Westminster (UK). The CIFS course is the first step into higher education at WIUT. The course is designed to prepare students for degree study by building academic English, study skills, critical thinking, and key subject foundations, helping you move confidently into an Undergraduate degree at WIUT. The course is for school leavers who have completed Grade 11 or hold an equivalent qualification. 🎓🇬🇧

During the year, students study four core modules: Academic Communication Skills, Quantitative Methods, Critical Thinking & Citizenship, and Professional Skills and Employability, which strengthen language, numeracy, reasoning, and workplace-ready skills. In addition, students choose two optional modules from areas such as Visual Programming, Essential Web, Fundamentals of Commercial Law, Foundations of Economics, Introduction to Business and Entrepreneurship, and Understanding Finance, allowing them to build subject knowledge aligned with their future degree pathway.

The course is designed to support a smooth transition into university life by developing independent learning habits, strong communication and numeracy skills, broader social and economic awareness, a global outlook, and confident use of digital tools.
