Mstyslav Chernov's film won the Directors Guild of America Award for the second time. The film ‘2000 Metres to Andriivka’, which tells the story of the liberation of a village 10 km from Bakhmut, won in the documentary film category.
Together with the soldiers of the 3rd Separate Assault Brigade, the director captured the reality of combat through the prism of human stories. The film continues the path of Chernov's previous project, 20 Days in Mariupol, which was also recognised by the Directors Guild in 2023 and later brought Ukraine its first Oscar.
Mstyslav Chernov's team consistently documents the war — from the siege of Mariupol to the battles in Donbas — and makes these stories understandable to the world. The new award once again emphasises that Ukrainian cinema today is not only an art form, but also a language through which Ukraine communicates its reality to the international community.
