— Exiled Brazilian former congressman Eduardo Bolsonaro stated that he was sentenced by Brazil’s Supreme Federal Court (STF) to 4 years and 2 months in prison for
criticizing Justice Alexandre de Moraes, whom he described as a
human rights violator.
He characterized the ruling as political persecution and
called on U.S. President Donald Trump to
reinstate sanctions against the Brazilian authorities involved
"Yesterday, the Supreme Court of Brazil convicted me for more than four years in jail. Why? Because a justice from the Supreme Court that also was one of the five that convicted me, he said that when Trump sanctioned him because human rights violations, this is an attack against Brazil.
No, no, no, this is not an attack against Brazil. This is a president of the number one democracy of the world saying that this justice, which by the way his name is Alexandre de Moraes, is the same that banned X from Brazil, froze Starlink accounts, also detained Jason Miller in the airport, and was issuing warranties against... to imprison American citizens that were tweeting from the United States territory.
So that's why they convicted me, and they never served me in the US despite everybody knows where I live. All the American authorities knows where I live. Even journalists from Brazil knocked in my door in my house here in Dallas, Texas, where I'm living in exile, and I do not hide this from anyone. But the Supreme Court doesn't want to do that, because you have minimum requirements to move forward a rogatory letter to listen me in this trial. So they do not want to do that. That's why I do not recognize and everything that I know about this case is coming from the press.
[...] And I will never stop. Because all of the regimes they reach a point of repression, when it's too high it's because they are really close of the end, of the finish mark of this war. And we will elect in October Jair Bolsonaro president of Brazil, to rescue our good relations not only with the United States but also democracies all around the world, not with, you know, countries like Iran, which you have a... where you have a regime taking over the country.
President Trump, please, get back with Magnitsky Global Act. These guys are human rights violators, and after me, if one day, on the next election, if come back a radical left administration here in the US, they will be together persecuting not only you, but all the people around you in the administration. So it's time for cleaning the mess in Brazil, and we count with our allies overseas. Thank you very much."
