🇺🇸❌🇧🇷 — The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump has proposed a new punitive tariff of 25% on many imports from Brazil after determining that certain Brazilian practices were unfair across several areas, according to U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, as cited by Reuters and CNBC.
“I initiated this investigation under Section 301 at the direction of President Trump to address the United States’ deep and longstanding concerns regarding certain Brazilian trade policies and practices. Over the past year, President Trump and I have held several constructive meetings with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and his cabinet, and those discussions have intensified in recent weeks.
However, we continue to have substantial differences in resolving the issues identified in this investigation. I look forward to continuing engagement with the Brazilian government before the statutory deadline of July 15, 2026, for the adoption of responsive measures.”
