On October 15, 2025, in Brussels, Germany and France formalized an implementation agreement for Odin's Eye ( multinatiOnal Development INitiative for a Space-based missilE earlY-warning architecture ), an early warning capability from orbit intended to detect missile launches as early as possible.

Odin's Eye is based on a constellation of satellites equipped with infrared sensors capable of identifying the thermal signature of ballistic or hypersonic missiles upon ignition. The industrial architect, the German OHB, brings together a European network that includes the French Thales Alenia Space, ArianeGroup, MBDA , Onera and Lynred.

The system is not limited to space. It is part of a " multiple sensor " approach combining ground-based radars and satellites, with a simple objective: gaining precious minutes in the decision-making loop. Operationally, this alert must integrate with existing or future effectors, from anti-missile interception to close air defense, including civil alert.
