"The one feeling I'll live with for the rest of my life is how I came to Ukraine. I came as an occupier."

A soldier with the callsign "Chornyi" was drafted into the Russian army at the beginning of the full-scale invasion. He shared that his commanders had told him the Russians were welcomed in Enerhodar as 'liberators,' but after seeing videos of what was actually happening there, he decided to desert.

However, for this, he and five other Russians were sent to the Donetsk direction as a "beacon" - to check whether there were Ukrainian soldiers or not - where they were captured. The Russians, seeing that the soldiers had surrendered, tried to kill them with mortars.

In captivity, "Chornyi" decided to join the Russian Volunteer Corps and defend Ukraine, because, as he says, "it is necessary to fight against the current authorities" in Russia.
