Following the publication of a video by a teacher from a school in Rustaq district of Takhar province, several cultural activists in the province have launched a campaign calling for the construction of this school. They have urged all citizens of Afghanistan, as well as aid organizations inside and outside the country, to contribute to building the school. According to them, this campaign aims to provide a suitable environment for children’s education so they can study and learn in a healthy and appropriate setting.
A video has been released showing a teacher in Rustaq district of Takhar province expressing concern about the poor and inadequate conditions of the school where he teaches. He says that students study outdoors throughout the year, in both heat and cold, under the scorching summer sun and the chill of autumn. According to this teacher, more than 2,000 students are receiving education at the school, but they have no shelter.
The teacher says: “Students receive education in all seasons, in both heat and cold. In two shifts, around 2,000 boys and girls [below grade six] are engaged in learning. In the heat of summer, under the intense July sun, and also in spring due to snow and rain, they face severe difficulties. I ask everyone who sees us and hears our voice to contribute to building classrooms and boundary walls for the school.”
