Several residents of Kabul are complaining about a decrease in the weight of bread in bakeries across the city. They say that despite prices remaining unchanged, the weight of purchased bread does not match the standards set by the municipality under Taliban control, and each piece of bread currently weighs about 30 to 40 grams less. According to them, in addition to the reduced weight, the quality of bread has also significantly declined. The residents of Kabul stress that the decrease in weight and quality, combined with a lack of adequate oversight, has become a serious concern for families.

Several Kabul residents say that in recent weeks both the weight and quality of bread in the city’s bakeries have declined. According to them, the quality of bread has also decreased due to low-quality flour, and the bread is no longer edible after it cools.

Shazia, a woman who is the head of her 10-member family, considers the quality and weight of bread in Kabul bakeries to be worrying. She says that due to her weak financial situation, she is forced to rely on this bread, but in recent days, because of the reduced weight, she has had to buy more. According to her, a bread that costs 20 Afghanis now effectively has a value equivalent to 10 Afghanis in terms of weight.
