Online relationships can lead to a scam!

In many cases, scammers spend months building trust on social media. Once emotional dependence is created, they misuse private conversations, photos, or videos to start blackmail and extortion.

What may begin as small payments to “keep things private” can quickly turn into sustained financial exploitation.

Investigations have revealed that such cases are often run by organised sextortion networks that systematically target victims online.

Dhyan Rakhein:
• Social media friendships with strangers should always be approached cautiously
• Never share intimate photos, videos, or sensitive personal content online
• Do not share personal, financial, or banking details with people you have only met online
• If someone threatens or blackmails you, do not panic and do not pay, report immediately

If you are facing online blackmail or cyber fraud, call 1930 or report at cybercrime.gov.in.
