Gunshots Reported During Military Attachés' Border Inspection
PHNPM PENH—Cambodia said the Thai military initiated five instances of gunfire during on-site observation and inspection of the Military Attachés Corps in Phnom Penh (MACPP) at the O’Smach International Border Checkpoint in Oddar Meanchey Province.
Lt. General Maly Socheata, Spokesperson at the Ministry of National Defence, said that the shots were fired between 10:35 am and 11:09 am. A total of nine shots were fired from M79 and M16 weapon types.
She said this incident contradicts the ceasefire and the agreements aimed at reducing tensions and promoting peace along the border.
“Cambodian forces will continue to monitor closely and remain vigilant in fulfilling their role of firmly protecting Cambodia's territorial integrity and the people,” said Socheata.
