V.D. Satheesan, member of the Indian National Congress (INC) now the leader of the Opposition in the Kerala Legislative Assembly, was first elected as MLA in 2001 from the Paravur constituency. At the time, he was still practicing as an advocate in the Kerala High Court. In 2021, he was elected for the fifth time from Paravur against M.T. Nixon (CPI) with a margin of 21,301 votes. He is set to defend his seat for the sixth time from Paravur, as the state goes to polls on 9 April.
