On 25 February 1981, Babu Jagjivan Ram addressed the Lok Sabha during the discussion on the Motion of Thanks to the President's Address. He spoke about communal violence, atrocities on Scheduled Castes in Gujarat, fear among minorities, police excesses, and the moral degradation of the country. "When prices rise, it affects your families as well. When law and order collapses, it creates danger for all. This is a national question. It must not be treated as a party issue," he said.
