The Congress high command Sunday appeared to have sent a subtle message to Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah—‘Look who is talking’. This followed Siddaramaiah’s opposition to the nomination of Samarth, son of cabinet minister S.S. Mallikarjun and grandson of Shamnur Shivashankarappa, for the Davangere South bypoll. Party insiders claim Siddaramaiah was “dead against” giving a ticket to “another (Shamnur) family member”, supposedly, because it could lead to a concentration of power.
