Find out more about the discovery in ThePrint #PureScience with Soumya Pillai https://youtu.be/l96cWtKR7IA YouTube Where does gold come from? Scientists discover a missing step Heavy elements like gold cannot be produced through ordinary fusion reactions that power stars like the sun. Instead, scientists believe they are created through a process known as the r-process. This occurs in environments where atomic nuclei are bombarded with enormous numbers of neutrons in a very short time. In a new experiment at the ISOLDE facility at CERN, physicists studied the decay of a rare isotope called indium-134. By observing how this unstable nucleus emits neutrons, researchers were able to measure nuclear reactions that occur along the pathway. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Exclusive content, special privileges & more – Subscribe to ThePrint for Special benefits: https://theprint.in/subscribe/ --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Connect with ThePrint » Subscribe to ThePrint: https://theprint.in/subscribe/ » Subscribe to our YouTube Channel: https://bit.ly/3nCMpht » Like us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/theprintindia » Tweet us on Twitter: https://twitter.com/theprintindia » Follow us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/theprintindia » Find us on LinkedIn : https://www.linkedin.com/company/theprint » Subscribe to ThePrint on Telegram: https://t.me/ThePrintIndia » Find us on Spotify: https://spoti.fi/2NMVlnB » Find us on Apple Podcasts: https://apple.co/3pEOta8 ❤ 1 1 912
