Opinion: 'Soon after the 2024 general elections and the formation of the government in New Delhi, there was a lot of talk about the need to provide jobs and fill vacancies in different Union ministries and their departments. Perhaps this followed the ruling party’s assessment that jobs were one of the factors behind its underwhelming electoral performance that did not let it form the government on the strength of its own majority.

Whatever the reasons, the first Union Budget after the elections did announce a few schemes, including an internship programme aimed at creating more jobs in the private sector. Simultaneously, the government decided to pay more attention to the need to offer jobs in its ministries and departments.'
