China marked its 48th National Tree Planting Day on Thursday. Thanks to ongoing greening efforts, the country’s combined forest and grass coverage rate has exceeded 56%, with forest stock volume reaching nearly 20.99 billion cubic meters. In 2025, China’s afforestation area surpassed 3.56 million hectares, while restored degraded grasslands totaled nearly 4.93 million hectares, according to a report released Thursday by the National Greening Commission.
