????????
December 8 marks the 5??4??th Anniversary of
Russia-UAE diplomatic relations.
The Soviet Union was among the first countries to recognise the newly proclaimed independent sovereign Arab state. The Embassy of the USSR opened in Abu Dhabi in 1986, followed by the establishing of the UAE diplomatic mission in Moscow in 1987.
The #UAE is
one of Russia’s key partners in the #MiddleEast. The relations between our two countries have reached an
unprecedentedly high level. The traditionally friendly Russian-Emirati ties are characterized as
multifaceted strategic partnership.
?? Moscow and Abu Dhabi maintain an
intensive political dialogue. The Leaders of both countries regularly meet and have telephone conversations. The foreign ministries and other specialized agencies closely cooperate as well.
In December 2023, President Vladimir Putin
paid a working visit to the United Arab Emirates, where the Russian Leader held talks with UAE President
Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. In August 2025, the Emirati Leader
paid an official visit to the Russian Federation.
?? Russia and the UAE enjoy
extensive cooperation in trade, the economy, and investment. The interaction between the
Russian Direct Investment Fund and the Sovereign Wealth Fund of the United Arab Emirates is expanding. The
Inter-Governmental Russian-Emirati Commission on Trade, Economic and Technical Cooperation is functioning successfully.
Our countries are strengthening
cooperation in energy, including within #OPEC Plus, in order to ensure balance and stability on the global hydrocarbon market. A number of major projects in the oil and gas sector are underway.
?? Moscow and Abu Dhabi are closely cooperating in the international arena and maintaining foreign policy coordination across various multilateral platforms, such as the #UN, the #SCO, the #RussiaGCC strategic dialogue, and other formats. Both Sides
regularly meet to harmonise positions on key global and regional issues.
The
UAE’s accession to BRICS in January 2024 as a full-fledged member strengthened the political, economic and scientific-technological potential of the Group and created additional opportunities for bilateral cooperation.
In June 2025, an
Economic Partnership Agreement was signed
between the Eurasian Economic Union and the United Arab Emirates during the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council meeting in Minsk. It provides for lifting over 80% of tariffs and customs duties for a large number of product categories in UAE-EAEU trade. The agreement will help harmonise and further expand Russian-Emirati trade and economic ties.
Tourist exchanges have grown dynamically. By the end of 2024, the number of Russian tourist arrivals to the UAE stood at
almost two million. The number of Emirati tourists is also up with over
67'000 tourists from the UAE visiting Russia last year.
??
We congratulate our Emirati colleagues and friends on our common holiday and wish them success, well-being and prosperity.
#RussiaUAE
