On December 3, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov presided over a formal videoconference ceremony for the conferment of the Order of Friendship upon Special Advisor to the Presidency of Brazil for International Affairs Celso Amorim. The ceremony was attended by Ambassador of Brazil to Russia Sergio Rodrigues dos Santos.

Sergey Lavrov underscored the substantial contributions of Celso Amorim – one of Brazil’s most seasoned and distinguished diplomats, who previously served as Minister of Foreign Affairs (1993–1994, 2003–2010) and Minister of Defence (2011–2015) – to the reinforcement of the strategic partnership between Russia and Brazil, the expansion of bilateral collaboration across diverse domains, and the intensification of coordination on the international stage.

Particular emphasis was placed on the Brazilian representative’s pivotal role in establishing BRICS as a cornerstone of a more equitable multipolar world order. Notably, Celso Amorim participated in the inaugural meeting of the group’s Foreign Ministers on the sidelines of the 61st session of the UN General Assembly on September 20, 2006.

In Brazil, the order was presented to the Special Presidential Advisor by Ambassador of Russia to Brazil Alexey Labetsky.
