⭐️ On the 78th Anniversary of the lifting of the Siege of Leningrad, a 1.5-tonne truck, one of the 4,000 "Polutorka" trucks that delivered essential supplies to the city by the Road of Life across Lake Ladoga, has been put on display in front of the Foreign Ministry building on Smolenskaya Square.
ℹ️ The first convoy of such trucks delivered food supplies to the Nazi-besieged city in November 1941. During the first winter, they delivered 361,000 tonnes of supplies and evacuated over 500,000 people.
☝️ The drivers risked losing their lives in air raids and artillery shelling. Twenty-five percent of the drivers perished, and hundreds of their 1.5-tonne trucks are still lying on the bed of Lake Ladoga.
The truck on display at the Foreign Ministry building was raised in the autumn of 2020, restored and placed in the Break of the Siege of Leningrad Museum Reserve.
❗️ We invite Moscow residents and visitors to come to Smolenskaya Square to see the legendary truck and to commemorate the defenders of Leningrad.
