♻️ Experts say that Russia's invasion of Ukraine is causing an environmental crisis. Attacks on civilian and military sites, especially in such a heavily industrialized country, are causing long-lasting air, ground, and water pollution.

☢️ Risks for contamination and health problems arise when nuclear sites are disturbed. Russia has already taken control of Chernobyl, and Ukraine operates more than a dozen nuclear reactors. Several reports have detailed strikes near nuclear-waste facilities, which increases health risks.

🌍 And the war could detract from from future climate policy initiatives, as it distracts attention and diverts resources of governments across the globe at a time when experts say we can’t afford to delay.
