🚨 Texas’ controversial new abortion law, which went into effect last week, prohibits people in the state from having an abortion after a fetal “heartbeat” can be detected on an ultrasound. Here’s the latest:

🇺🇸 Gov. Greg Abbott of Texas said in a press conference on Tuesday that the state’s new abortion law would not force a rape victim to carry their assailant’s child to term. To achieve this, the governor pledged to “eliminate all rapists” in Texas.

🧬 Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York criticized Abbott’s response, saying he lacked basic knowledge about biology. She apologized for having to break down “biology 101 on national television, but in case no one has informed him before in his life, six weeks pregnant means two weeks late for your period.”

📲 Meanwhile, Reddit shut down a forum started by users who wanted to share tips on finding and suing people trying to get abortions in the state. Vice reported the group had 68 members when it was shut down
