Accelerating Water Conservation for a Water-Secure Maharashtra

Chaired a review meeting of the Soil and Water Conservation Department at Varsha, Mumbai today.

As a precautionary measure in view of possible El Niño conditions, directed that water conservation works under Jalyukt Shivar Abhiyan 2.0 be completed on priority, especially in areas with declining groundwater levels. Also instructed that repair works in villages covered under the scheme be completed at the earliest. Directed that state-level plans be approved before 15 May and revised plans be shared with districts to speed up implementation.

Also emphasised effective utilisation of the Central Government’s ‘Viksit Bharat-G RAM G’ initiative to strengthen water conservation efforts across Maharashtra. Suggested bamboo plantation along water channels to prevent future silt accumulation and directed that repair works of Malgujari lakes in Vidarbha be completed before June.

Minister Sanjay Rathod and senior officials were present.
