U.S. Senate Approves Bill to End Historic 40-Day Government Shutdown

The Senate just greenlit a measure to get the federal government back up and running after the longest shutdown in U.S. history, passing it 60–39. Seven Democrats and one independent crossed the aisle to team up with Republicans—who hold a 53–47 edge—to hit the 60-vote threshold, though Kentucky's Sen. Rand Paul was the lone GOP dissenter over spending worries.
