Over the past 25 years, the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation has come a long way, becoming one of the independent and influential centres of the emerging #MultipolarWorld.

Today, the SCO is effectively the largest regional association not only on our common Eurasian continent, but in the world as a whole.

Its member states account for almost half of the world’s population and more than one-third of global GDP.

✍️ Following the meeting, a package of 28 documents was adopted, including the Bishkek Declaration on the 25th Anniversary of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation.

🎙 Concluding his working visit to Kyrgyzstan, Vladimir Putin answered questions from Russian journalists, addressing key issues on the international agenda.

🇷🇺🇮🇩 On August 31 2026, at the personal initiative of staff members of Russian diplomatic missions and representative offices in Jakarta and in response to a request from residents of Nagekeo, East Nusa Tenggara Province, humanitarian assistance for communities impacted by the earthquake on Flores Island was handed over to Indonesia’s National Agency for Disaster Management (BNPB).

📦 The assistance included rice, cooking oil, instant noodles, and other essential food and household supplies intended to support local families in need.

🤝 The initiative reflects sincere expression of solidarity with the people affected by the earthquake and a contribution to supporting local communities during this difficult time.

🗓On 27 August, the delegation of the Russian Ministry of Defence🇷🇺 took part in the regular meeting of the #ASEAN Defence Senior Officials’ Meeting-Plus (#ADSOM-Plus) held online.

The participants discussed progress under the ADMM-Plus Experts’ Working Groups and exchanged views on regional security issues. The Meeting also discussed the preparations for the upcoming 13th ADMM-Plus in October.

🗓 On 19-21 August, the #ASEAN-EAEU Dialogue and Capacity-Building on Digital Cooperation and Development was held in Jakarta under the ESCAP project “Strengthening Regional Cooperation on Digital Transformation for Economic and Sustainable Development”.
🔹 The three-day seminar brought together experts from #ASEAN and the Eurasian Economic Union (#EAEU) Member States as well as ESCAP, ASEAN Secretariat, partner organisations, IT-companies, think-tanks and others in order to exchange views and best practices.

Ambassador of the Russian Federation to ASEAN H.E. Evgeny Zagaynov addressed the participants with the opening remarks:

The ASEAN-EAEU Dialogue provides a good opportunity to discuss different aspects of the digital agenda of the two organizations and the prospects of further cooperation between them. I hope that this event will facilitate efforts to foster understanding between our regions in the interests of building a fair system of international regulation of the use of AI technologies, as well as equal and effective digital cooperation in other areas. 

🔹 The programme covered a wide range of issues, including digital governance, artificial intelligence, data governance, digital trade, digital skills and inclusive digital development.
🔹 Particular attention was given to opportunities for strengthening cooperation between ASEAN and the EAEU in digital transformation and capacity-building.

💬 Vladimir Putin: We are very pleased to extend a warm welcome to our dear friend, President of Myanmar Min Aung Hlaing, on his official visit.

🇷🇺🇲🇲 Russia and Myanmar are bound by truly strong, time‑tested ties of friendship, partnership, and mutual support.

Our shared history encompasses a wealth of experience in multifaceted cooperation, founded upon the principles of equality, mutual benefit, respect for and consideration of each other’s interests.

Russia-Myanmar relations continue to strengthen steadily and are being enriched with new, specific substance.

The intergovernmental commission is functioning effectively, regular dialogue takes place through the Foreign Ministries and security councils. Interparliamentary and interparty contacts are deepening, and a number of major joint projects are currently being worked out and implemented.

📄 A substantial package of intergovernmental and commercial agreements has been adopted.

We prioritise economic ties. Reliable financial settlement mechanisms have been established, with two-thirds of commercial transactions now conducted in Russian rubles.

Energy is an important area of cooperation between our two countries. Joint construction of a power plant and an oil refinery in southern Myanmar is under consideration. Russian companies are also ready to participate in hydrocarbon exploration and production, including offshore.

There are good prospects for exporting liquefied natural gas to Myanmar, both for domestic consumption and for transit to neighbouring countries. Last year, an intergovernmental agreement was signed on the construction of a Russian-designed nuclear power plant in Myanmar. This is truly a flagship bilateral project.

I would also like to highlight a number of promising joint projects in industry, transport, and logistics. Partnerships in high-tech sectors are also developing. Cooperation is also being developed under the Intergovernmental Agreement on Cooperation in the Exploration and Use of Outer Space for Peaceful Purposes and Manned Spaceflight, signed in 2025.

The two countries have traditionally maintained strong humanitarian ties. Scientific, academic, youth, tourism, and sports exchanges are expanding, facilitated in no small measure by the visa-free regime between our countries.

We certainly welcome the growing interest of Myanmar citizens in learning Russian. The possibility of Myanmar schools and universities joining the Russian Teacher Abroad programme is also being explored. At present, approximately 400 Myanmar students are studying at Russian universities. In total, over 7,000 Myanmar citizens have received their education in our country.

During our exchange of views on foreign policy issues, it was confirmed that the positions of Russia and Myanmar either coincide or are very close. We firmly uphold the principles of the rule of international law, sovereignty, and non-interference in internal affairs.

I am confident that this rich programme will undoubtedly be a success, and that the results achieved, agreements reached, and documents signed will contribute to the continued expansion of Russia-Myanmar cooperation.

Before we begin our conversation, I would like to express my sincere condolences over the devastating flooding in your country, which has affected tens of thousands of people.

Relations between our countries were established back in 1948 and have continued to develop steadily ever since, acquiring a particularly close and trusting character in recent years.

We are grateful to you for facilitating the development of #RussiaASEAN relations. We also actively cooperate on the international stage.

Of course, there is work to be done on the economic track. We have a solid foundation and promising projects. Our cooperation in the field of security is also developing.
