📢 On July 9, the Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of the Mission of the Russian Federation to ASEAN Mr. Andrey Yudin 🇷🇺 took part in the Second Meeting of the Group of the East Asia Summit (#EAS) Participating Countries' Ambassadors to ASEAN (EAS Group Meeting) held in Bandung, Indonesia 🇮🇩.

🔹️The meeting reviewed the progress of implementation of the EAS Plan of Action 2024-2028 and discussed preparation for the 21st EAS in November this year.

🔹️Russian delegation undelined the important role of the EAS Group in implementing the EAS Leaders' decisions and promoting tangible cooperation between the EAS Participating Countries.

🔹️On the same day the Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of the Mission of the Russian Federation to ASEAN Mr. Andrey Yudin 🇷🇺 and Deputy Director-General of the Department of Asia and Pacific Cooperation of the Russian MFA Mr. Timur Zevakhin 🇷🇺 took part in the #EAS Group Retreat on Regional Security and Cooperation. Key points:

🔹️ Against the backdrop of growing geopolitical turbulence, ASEAN continues to demonstrate its ability to preserve strategic autonomy while strengthening its role as one of the key centres of the emerging multipolar world.

🔹️The ASEAN-Russia Commemorative Summit in Kazan reaffirmed the parties' common aspiration towards a just multipolar world, as well as underscored the unwavering support to ASEAN Centrality and articulated the shared vision of a peaceful, stable and secure future of the wider Asia-Pacific, the Indian Ocean and Eurasia region.

🔹️ The Summit resulted in the adoption of the Kazan Declaration, the Comprehensive Plan of Action 2026-2030, and the Joint Statements on Energy and Cultural Cooperation, providing a roadmap for expanding practical cooperation in both traditional and emerging areas.

🔹️President Vladimir Putin emphasized in Kazan: “Russia sincerely strives to build a multidimensional and truly strategic partnership with the states of the Southeast Asia, and we see the same commitment – to work together, hand in hand – reflected among our ASEAN partners”.

🔹️ Attempts by some pro-Western commentators to criticise ASEAN Member States for participating in the Summit reflect a mistaken assumption that Southeast Asian countries require external guidance or approval in conducting their foreign policy.

🔹️Russia has always consistently respected and supported ASEAN Member States sovereignty and their right to make foreign policy decisions free from external influence. ASEAN nations are fully aware of the geopolitical realities in different parts of the world, and their decisions do not stem from ignorance or immaturity, they result from a strategic vision.

🔹️ASEAN engagement with Russia should be seen through the prism of its own interests rather than from the perspective of some outside expectations.

🗓 On June 29, 2026, Embassy of Russia in Indonesia together with Permanent Mission of Russia to ASEAN held a solemn reception on the occasion of Russia Day.

🇷🇺🇮🇩 The event was attended by Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs of Indonesia Airlangga Hartarto, Chairman of the Regional Representative Council of Indonesia Sultan Bachtiar Najamudin, Minister of Culture of Indonesia Fadli Zon, Minister of Tourism of Indonesia Widiyanti Putri Wardhana, Minister of Environment of Indonesia Mohammad Jumhur Hidayat and Minister of Transmigration of Indonesia Muhammad Iftitah Sulaiman.

🤝 The reception brought together around 1,000 guests, including heads of diplomatic missions of CIS, BRICS and other friendly countries, representatives of government institutions, political, public and business circles, as well as members of the media, academic, cultural and artistic communities, clergy, and heads of organizations and associations of Russian compatriots.

🎙 Welcoming remarks were delivered by Ambassador of Russia to Indonesia Sergei Tolchenov, Ambassador of Russia to ASEAN Evgeny Zagaynov, and Guest of Honour Airlangga Hartarto.

💬 In his address, Ambassador Tolchenov said: Russia Day embodies the enduring unity and common destiny of the peoples of our country. It brings together all those who take pride in Russia's glorious centuries-long history, its economic strength, scientific and technological potential, and its exceptionally rich cultural heritage. It is symbolic that the current year, 2026, has been declared by President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin the Year of the Unity of the Peoples of Russia - peoples who live in peace and harmony.

In an age of globalization and growing interdependence among different regions of the world, Russia's development is inseparable from the strengthening of ties with friendly nations, among which the Republic of Indonesia occupies a special place. Established 76 years ago, Russian-Indonesian relations have a distinguished history, including in the context of upholding Indonesia's national sovereignty and territorial integrity. The Declaration on Strategic Partnership adopted by the leaders of our two countries last year lays a solid foundation for the steady advancement of bilateral ties in the foreseeable future.

📸 During the reception, the Embassy also presented an art display featuring Russian landscapes, along with the photo projects «Weddings of the Peoples of the World» and a series of archival photographs highlighting the history of Russian-Indonesian cooperation.

🎙On June 24, a joint press briefing by H.E. Evgeny Zagaynov, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to ASEAN, and H.E. Sergei Tolchenov, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Indonesia, was held in Jakarta 🇮🇩.

During the briefing, Ambassador Zagaynov elaborated on the key outcomes of the ASEAN-Russia Commemorative Summit held on 17–18 June 2026 in Kazan🇷🇺, Russia, marking the 35th anniversary of ASEAN-Russia relations. Ambassador Tolchenov briefed the media on recent developments in the Russia-Indonesia bilateral agenda.

Key points of Ambassador Zagaynov’s remarks:

🔹️The Kazan Summit reaffirmed the commitment of ASEAN and Russia to further strengthening their Strategic Partnership based on equality, mutual respect and consideration of each other’s interests.

🔹️The adoption of the Kazan Declaration “ASEAN-Russian Federation: Unity in Diversity – 35 Years Together” became one of the key outcomes of the Summit. The document reflects the shared vision of ASEAN and Russia on advancing cooperation amid global transformations and outlines priority areas for future engagement, including security, energy and food security, trade and investment, digitalisation, artificial intelligence, science and technology, education, culture, tourism and youth exchanges.

🔹️ASEAN-Russia practical cooperation continues to expand across key areas, including political and security dialogue, countering transnational crime and ICT-related threats, economic cooperation, tourism, education and youth exchanges.

🇷🇺🇰🇭 President of Russia Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister of Cambodia Hun Manet held a meeting on the sidelines of the #RussiaASEAN Summit (Kazan, June 18, 2026)

💬 Vladimir Putin: Cambodia is our long-standing friend and partner. This May, we marked the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations.

As is well known, our country assisted Cambodia in building its statehood. With the assistance of the Soviet Union, a major hospital and a technological institute were built in Cambodia, while energy, agricultural, telecommunications, maritime and transport infrastructure facilities were put into operation. Many of these facilities continue to serve the Cambodian people to this day.

🤝 Today, Russia-Cambodia relations continue to develop steadily. Last year, bilateral trade increased by 2%. Of course, this is a modest figure and it does not reflect the potential we have. The governments of our countries are working to intensify trade and investment ties.

We are interested in expanding contacts between the business communities of our two countries. In November 2025, representatives of major Russian companies visited Cambodia, including AvtoVAZ, GAZ, KAMAZ, Miratorg and others.

A Cambodian delegation took part in the St Petersburg International Economic Forum held on June 3-6. We invite your companies to participate in the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok on September 1-4 and in Russian Energy Week in Moscow this October.

Cooperation between our countries in culture and humanitarian affairs is also gaining momentum. In March, the Days of Russian Culture were successfully held in Phnom Penh.

🎓 We continue to assist Cambodia in personnel training. More than 8,000 citizens of your country have already received higher education in Russia. Currently, around 160 Cambodian students are studying here, and another 63 scholarships have been allocated for the current academic year.

We have long-standing relations, as I have already said. The scope of our cooperation is expanding, and we are very pleased about this today.
